John & Janie Street

Dr. John Street is professor and department chair for the graduate programs in Biblical Counseling at The Master’s University & Seminary in Santa Clarita, California. In addition to his ministry at TMUS, he serves as an elder and lay pastor at Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California. John is a second-generation pastor, giving more than 40 years to pastoral ministry. He was the founding pastor of Clearcreek Chapel in Springboro, Ohio, where he also built a strong counseling program and training center with a special emphasis in training pastors. He currently serves as the president of the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors (ACBC).  John is married to Janie, his wife of 41 years, and they have been blessed with four children and six grandchildren.

While statistics vary, some polls indicate that the divorce rate in Canada is as high as 40-50 percent. Almost half of all marriages end in divorce. Some studies also indicate that the number of single parent households is on the rise as are the number of common-law couples (couples that live together without being married). With all of these alarming trends, it is important to ask what can be done about it.

Scholars have come up with all kinds of solutions to fix this problem which cover everything from psychology to genetics to “existential security,” but the answer is simpler than that. Families need to return to the Bible. Men and women need to return to the roles God has given them in His Word.

For example, the Bible says that marriage was God’s intention from the very beginning (Genesis 2:24) and that it is good (Proverbs 18:22) and a blessing and a cause for rejoicing (Proverbs 5:18-19). It also says that husbands and wives are equal before God (Ephesians 5:29-31) and they both reflect His image (Genesis 1:26-27). It teaches husbands to love their wives as Christ loved the church and it teaches wives to follow their husbands (Ephesians 5:21-33; 1 Peter 3:1-6). It says that they should train their children up (Proverbs 22:6; Colossians 3:21) and provide for them (1 Timothy 3:5) and not exasperate them (Ephesians 6:4).

In short, the Bible says that the family is a priority. It takes precedence over all else in the church and in our society, which is what the 2019 “Foundations of a Godly Family Conference” is all about. If you would like to learn more, please contact the GFC Church Office at 604-426-1044 or email us at What a wonderful opportunity to fellowship with other believers in the faith and to learn more about our high calling as families! Let’s pray that the Lord will bless our time together and that He will use it to build us up in the faith.
