Save the date for the 2019 Foundations for a Godly Family Conference sponsored by Grace Fellowship Chilliwack and Church on 99 in Squamish. This is a conference for the whole family! The dates for the conference are Friday night, April 5 through Saturday, April 6. The location is Chilliwack with the specific facility yet to be announced. The topic will be the Biblical mandate God has given to the family, and Dr. John Street will be our featured speaker.
Dr. Street is a professor of Biblical Counseling at The Master’s University and Seminary, and he serves as the chairman of the Masters of Arts in Biblical Counseling program there. He also serves as an elder of Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California. Prior to coming to California, he taught at Cedarville and Cornerstone Universities and served on the Board of the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors. He holds a doctorate from Westminster Theological Seminary.
While statistics vary, some polls indicate that the divorce rate in Canada is as high as 40-50 percent. Almost half of all marriages end in divorce. Some studies also indicate that the number of single parent households is on the rise as are the number of common-law couples (couples that live together without being married). With all of these alarming trends, it is important to ask what can be done about it.
Scholars have come up with all kinds of solutions to fix this problem which cover everything from psychology to genetics to “existential security,” but the answer is simpler than that. Families need to return to the Bible. Men and women need to return to the roles God has given them in His Word.
For example, the Bible says that marriage was God’s intention from the very beginning (Genesis 2:24) and that it is good (Proverbs 18:22) and a blessing and a cause for rejoicing (Proverbs 5:18-19). It also says that husbands and wives are equal before God (Ephesians 5:29-31) and they both reflect His image (Genesis 1:26-27). It teaches husbands to love their wives as Christ loved the church and it teaches wives to follow their husbands (Ephesians 5:21-33; 1 Peter 3:1-6). It says that they should train their children up (Proverbs 22:6; Colossians 3:21) and provide for them (1 Timothy 3:5) and not exasperate them (Ephesians 6:4).
In short, the Bible says that the family is a priority. It takes precedence over all else in the church and in our society, which is what the 2019 “Foundations of a Godly Family Conference” is all about. Registration will be open February, 2019. More details for the Conference will be coming in the New Year but, if you would like to learn more now, please contact the GFC Church Office at 604-426-1044 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. What a wonderful opportunity to fellowship with other believers in the faith and to learn more about our high calling as families! Let’s pray that the Lord will bless our time together and that He will use it to build us up in the faith.
