Who can join the church? The answer to that question is simple: Christians. Christians can join the church. But how can you tell if someone is a Christian? The answer to that question is simple too: confession. Romans 10:9 says, "That if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." But what does that look like? What does it look like to confess Jesus with your mouth? If you think about it, there are a lot of different ways to confess your faith in Jesus today. For example, you can do it with t-shirts. A popular t-shirt from the 90’s reads:
"Yes, as a matter of fact, I AM a . . .
Wide Eyed, Sanctified Blood Bought,
Spirit Taught Bible Toting, Scripture Quoting
Satan Bashing, Sin Trashing
Christ Following, Pride Swallowing
Hard Praying, Truth Conveying
Faith Walking, Gospel Talking
Bona-Fide BIG TIME BELIEVER
And proud of it."
Other ways to confess include bumper stickers and jewelry. My favorite bumper sticker says, "Honk if you love Jesus and text while driving if you want to meet Him" and we have all seen necklaces and bracelets made in the shape of the cross. But is there a Biblical way to do this? Does the Bible give us any instruction on how to confess? It does. And that is what we will be talking about this Sunday morning at Grace Fellowship Church. Please join us at 9:15 as we take an in-depth look at Romans 10:9-10. – Jeremy Cagle
