2 Chronicles 34
Even if you skim the news these days it’s easy to see that we live in a broken world. We can be tempted to look at our world, lament how bad things have become, and become discouraged, even apathetic. How can I as a Christian live within these times? How can I possibly influence our culture?
We’re tempted to think that things are worse now than they’ve ever been … but when we read the Old Testament, we realize that times actually haven’t changed that much. There are differences in how we experience our lives, but the same basic heart and faith issues that affect our culture were rampant in previous cultures.
Throughout time, there have been good and bad rulers, good and bad governments. There are policies and decisions that are set in place by one, that are dismantled by the next. There have been times of peace and prosperity, and times of war, anarchy and lack.
The story of King Josiah in the Old Testament has much to teach us about how, despite our background and our culture, God calls us to cultivate faithfulness and to determine to live sincerely and righteously wherever He has placed us. He will determine the degree of our influence.
That’s what we’ll be talking about on Sunday at Grace Fellowship Church. Come learn more about his life and be encouraged in your Christian walk. - Quentin Smith
